COEX

ASP-DAC 2008 will be held in the COEX Convention Center in Seoul, Korea. COEX, Asia's premier international convention and exhibition center, opened in Seoul, Korea, in the year 2000. At the forefront of globalization, COEX will continue to provide a high-tech venue for international exhibitions, meetings, and cultural events in the 21st century.

Deluxe hotels are within a 2-5 minute walking distance, while a number of other hotels can be reached within 10 minutes by bus or subway from the venue. The venue also has easy subway access, and taxis and buses are readily available. Furthermore, the Korea City Air Terminal, conveniently located within the complex, offers a non-stop limousine bus service to and from Incheon International Airport.

Seoul

Seoul has been the capital city of Korea for more than 600 years since Joseon Dynasty and the city bears important meaning as the heart of Korea’s politics, economics, society and culture. There are a number of invaluable cultural assets in Seoul, a region encompassing cultural features of the northern and southern areas of the Peninsula. Seoul has gained international recognition by successfully holding the ’86 Asian Games, the ’88 Olympic Games, and the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup. Among its numerous skyscrapers and glass towers, Seoul presents a number of beautiful palaces and ancient gates in various parts of its downtown core. 1) Incheon Int'l Airport ↔ COEX

1)-1. By Limousine Bus

- Location of Bus Stops: No. 4B, 11A
- Limousine Bus: We recommend either the KAL Limousine Bus or the Korea City Air Terminal Limousine Bus.
- Operating Hours: (Interval: 30 min.)
- Fare: KRW 13,000
- Route: Hyatt Incheon Hotel → Palace Hotel → Ritz-Carlton Hotel → Novotel Hotel → Ramada Hotel → COEX
- Traveling Time: 80 min.
- You may purchase Limousine and Premium Bus tickets and information at the passenger terminal arrival floor by the transportation information counter located at exit 2, 4, 9, and 13.

1)-2. By Taxi

- Standard Taxi: The fare is KRW 1,900 and KRW 100 is added every 144 m. An estimated amount to the venue is about KRW 70,000.
- Deluxe Taxi (Mobeom Taxi): The fare is KRW 4,500 and KRW 200 is added every 164m. An estimated amount to the venue is about KRW 100,000.
* Toll of KRW 6,700 should be paid by patrons at the toll bridge. Credit cards are not accepted. Between midnight and 4:00 am, there is an extra late-night charge.

2) Gimpo International Airport ↔ COEX

2)-2. By Taxi

- Standard Taxi: No. 1 platform in front of the ground floor of the domestic terminal.
The minimum fare in Seoul is 1,900 won, and 1,000 won are added per km. An estimated amount to the venue is about KRW 40,000.
- Deluxe Taxi (Mobeom Taxi): The minimum fare is KRW 4,500 per 3km, and traveling fare is KRW 200 per 164 m. An estimated amount to the venue is about KRW 60,000.

2)-3. By Subway

VISA Application

Application for Visas

1. Visitors who plan to stay in Korea for longer than 90 days must obtain visas before entering Korea.
2. Nationals of those countries which have visa waiver agreement with Korea can enter without visas, on the condition that they should not engage in remunerative activities during their stay in Korea.
* Canadians can also enter the Republic of Korea without visas for a stay of up to six months.
3. Visa application should be made at Korean Embassies or consulates abroad.
4. It is required for the visa applicants to submit passport, application forms, a recent passport-style color photograph, and such other documents as determined by the status of stay.
5. Visa fees are as follows
(visa fees below are basic rates so first contact the Korean Embassy or Consulate before applying for a visa):

Single entry visa for a stay of no more than 90 days: USD30
Single entry visa for a stay of more than 90 days: USD50
Multiple entry visa: USD80
Prolongation of Reentry Permit: USD20
* For Citizens of United States of America, multiple entry visa fee is USD45 on the basis of reciprocity since the mutual agreement in 1994.

Useful Information


Official Language

	The official language of the congress is English.


Time Difference

	Korean time is 9 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+9).


Passport and Visa

	All visitors to the Republic of Korea must have a valid passport and visa. Visitors with roundtrip tickets from countries who have a special agreement with Korea may be exempt from the visa requirement, and can stay in Korea visa-free for periods up to 30 days, or 90 days, depending on the type of agreement between two countries. When uncertain as to the requirement for entry visa to Korea, please contact the Korean embassy or a consulate as early as possible. Climate

	Korea's climate is regarded as a continental climate from a temperate standpoint and a monsoon climate from a precipitation standpoint. The climate of Korea is characterized by four distinct seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter. January is in the middle of winter. The average daytime temperature in Seoul during the enface will be around 0˚C-5˚C, Please prepare warm jacket.


Currency

	The unit of Korean currency is the Won (￦). Coin denominations are $10, $50, $100 and $500. Banknotes are ￦1,000, ￦5,000 and ￦10,000. As of April 20, 2007, the exchange rate is approximately US$1 to KR￦940. Currency exchange: Foreign banknotes and traveler's check can be exchanged at foreign exchange banks and other authorized moneychangers. Credit cards: Diners Club, Visa, American Express and MasterCard are widely accepted at major hotels, shops and restaurants in the larger cities. Check with your credit card company for details of merchant acceptability and other services which may be available. Traveler's check: Accepted, but may be difficult to change in smaller towns. To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travelers are advised to take Traveler's check in US Dollars. Banking hours: Monday to Friday 09 : 30 -16 : 30.


Electricity

	Outlets for 220 volts are dominant in Korea. Always check the power supply before using your equipment.


Liability and Insurance

	The Organizing Committee will take no liability for personal injuries sustained by or for loss or damage to property, belongings of congress participants or accompanying persons, either during or as a result of the congress or during their stay in Jeju. It is, therefore, advised that participants arrange their own personal health, accident and travel insurance.
