ASP-DAC 2016 General Chair’s Message

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I would like to invite all of the engineers on the LSI design and design automation areas to the 21-st Asia and South Pacific Design Automation Conference (ASP-DAC 2016). ASP-DAC 2016 will be held in Macao, China, January 25-28, 2016.

ASP-DAC 2016 is a high-quality and premium conference on Electronic Design Automation (EDA) area like other sister conferences such as Design Automation Conference (DAC), Design, Automation & Test in Europe (DATE), and International Conference on Computer Aided Design (ICCAD). ASP-DAC has been started at 1995 and continuously offers the opportunity to know the most recent developments of advanced technologies on LSI design and design automation areas, and to communicate with each other for researchers and designers around Asia and South Pacific regions.

Macao is one of the two special administrative regions of China which lies on the western side of the Pearl River Delta (PRD), bordering Guangdong province. And Macao has a rich heritage from both its Chinese and Portuguese past that includes many outstanding examples of western and oriental art and culture. The Historic Centre of Macao, which includes twenty-five historic monuments and public squares, was officially listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005. Macao has also a notable tourism industry that boasts a wide range of hotels, resorts, stadiums, restaurants and casinos, which probably will bring to ASP-DAC 2016 participants a wonderful trip. The conference site is the Sands Cotai Central, Taipa. The site includes more than 28,000 m2 of meeting space, 11 food and beverage establishments and 9,800 m2 of gaming area but also 1,270,000 m2 of non-gaming facilities.

ASP-DAC 2016 received 299 submissions of regular papers from 27 countries/regions all over the world. Based on rigorous and thorough reviews and a full-day face-to-face meeting by the Technical Program Committee, 94 papers have been accepted and 24 technical sessions have been organized. 8 Special Sessions have also been organized based on invited talks by the Technical Program Committee. We have arranged 5 Keynote speakers at the beginning of each day to learn from them the future directions in this area. The first Keynote speaker Alessandro Cremonesi, Group Vice President and General Manager of ST Central Labs at STMicroelectronics, will talk about “The Next Decade” The second Keynote speaker Qi Wang, VP and Chief of Staff to the CEO at Cadence Design Systems, Inc., will introduce “Systems of Systems - The Next Frontier of Semiconductor”. The third joint-keynote speeches will be from Giovanni De Micheli, Professor of École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, “Majority-based Synthesis for Nanotechnologies”, Jason Cong, Chancellor's Professor of UCLA Computer Science Department and Director of Center for Domain-Specific Computing, “A Scalable Communication-Aware Compilation Flow for Programmable Accelerators”, and Ruchir Puri, IBM Fellow of IBM Thomas J Watson Research Center, “Software and System Co-optimization in the era of Heterogeneous Computing”, all of which will be discussed during this third keynote session.

The University Design Contest is also an important annual event of ASP-DAC where 12 high-quality designs all including actual silicon proof were selected for presentation at January 26.

Further, 4 tutorials have been arranged on Monday, January 25, each with 3 hour presentations. Registrants can obtain wider perspective on the recent hot topics on Directed Self-Assembly Lithography (DSAL), Uncertainty Quantification for Electronic Systems, Energy-efficient Data Analytics, and Machine Learning and Neuromorphic Computing Acceleration.

ASP-DAC 2016 offers you an ideal opportunity to touch the recent technologies and foresee the future directions on the LSI design and design automation areas. You will be able to meet and discuss with a lot of researchers and designers from this area, then, please do not miss ASP-DAC 2016. Finally, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to all sponsors and supporters.
